Many congratulations to Valérie Lapointe, the most recent winner of the Nicole LaViolette Friends of Lambda Prize, at the University of Ottawa!
Valérie is a PhD student in Canadian politics at uOttawa, and her research interests concern LGBTQ issues in politics, with an emphasis on political parties in Canada. In her thesis, she focused on the relation between the LGBTQ movement and political parties, including LGBTQ activists within these political parties. Her academic and career paths demonstrate her passion for making Canadian society more inclusive for the LGBTQ community. This is not only to achieve full equality, but also to gain access to substantive citizenship – especially by being able to fully participate in the democratic system. Valérie is also a board member of the Conseil Quebecois LGBT (CQ-LGBT), an advocacy organization for LGBTQ rights in the province of Québec.
Amazing work, and we wish you all the best for the future!
