Say hello to Jefferson!
Jefferson Morris IV (yes, he is actually the fourth) is the newest member of the Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada’s Board, and he also works as a Junior Program Officer supporting the Diversity & Inclusion Task Force in federal government. He was born in Halifax and still calls good ol’ Nova Scotia home, but he has also lived (and indeed, grown up) in Kuwait, Pennsylvania, Montreal, Glasgow, and now – Ottawa! He is 25, a Libra (but near the cusp of Scorpio), has Canadian-American dual citizenship, and speaks English, Spanish, and French.
Jefferson (or “Jefe” or “Jef”) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Sociology, and Sexual Diversity Studies from McGill University, and in 2015/2016, he attended the University of Glasgow on full scholarship, graduating with honours with a Master of Science in Equality & Human Rights. He is passionate about social justice, (multicultural) feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, sexual health, education, youth empowerment, and sexual and gender diversity. He has a strong background in education (teaching English, instructing rural Peruvian youth about reproductive health, as a high ropes course facilitator, being a camp counselor for disadvantaged/troubled youth) and is a very social and friendly individual. He has volunteered with Lambda since October 2014 – helping with social media, translation, and youth engagement – and is excited to deepen his involvement with the Foundation.
Beyond work, Jefferson leads a full life, trying to do something exciting or enjoyable each day. He runs a personal travel/life blog (jetsetterjefferson.wordpress.com), reads a bunch (thanks to my backlit Kindle), plays board games (Scrabble, Werewolves, heavy strategy games, and most recently, Pandemic Legacy), watches horror movies and reality TV (especially The Challenge!), kills it at Super Smash Bros (and favours Mario and Zelda games too), hosts trivia nights, bikes around Ottawa, sees friends, devours nachos, does yoga & powerlifting, and loves to travel and explore new areas.
