Introducing Two New Lambda Scholarship Awards This Fall!

With the new school year fast approaching we are proud to announce two new Lambda Scholarship awards for students, the Lambda Scholarship Canada Graduate Award Fund at McMaster University and the Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada Common Law Scholarship at the University of Ottawa.

We have strived to create action items from our 2020 statement and commitment to address systemic racism in Canada. With that in mind, a focal point of our efforts this year has been to establish new awards tailored for marginalized youth intended to combat systemic oppression and discrimination. We aim to continue advocating for systemic rights while moving Lambda toward its future endeavours.

Both awards are designed for queer and trans students who are part of BIPOC communities. The McMaster Award has been funded by the Lambda Board however we are currently accepting donations on our Canada Helps page. The University of Ottawa award has been generously funded by an anonymous donor.

The award at McMaster University is specifically geared towards queer and trans graduate students who are Black, racialized, or Indigenous in their first year of study in any program. This award commitment is $3,000 for three years and will be awarded $1,000 each year to a different award winner.

The award at the University of Ottawa was created to provide financial assistance for Black students in the Common Law program who identify as LGBTQ2S+.

As mentioned previously, we would like to encourage community members and Lambda supporters to make a donation on our Canada Helps page, to help us meet our fundraising goal of $1,000 to fund the new award at McMaster University! We could not thank members from Canada Helps enough for making this possible for the Lambda team. Their partnership has been an incredible benefit to Lambda and has allowed us to continue on Lambda’s mission of advancing 2SLGBTQ+ and QTBIPOC education and mobilizing research across academic and non-academic communities.
