Congratulations to Morgan Stirling for winning the Lambda Foundation for Excellence – Les McAfee Memorial Award at the University of Manitoba!
Their biography:
Morgan is a queer, nonbinary PhD candidate at the University of Manitoba. They have over 10 years of experience working in the area of health equity and 2SLGBTQ+ people. Prior to their Ph.D., Morgan was working in Manitoba’s cancer system, where they learned about different structural and systemic issues that impact trans and gender-diverse people’s ability to access safe and respectful care. This experience led Morgan to do their PhD, where they are currently investigating how to improve the ways gender diversity is included and represented in cancer research. When they are not working, it is very likely Morgan is planning the next home reno project and trying to convince their partner why ‘it’s a good idea’.
A message from Morgan describing their current research/interests:
“I am interested in data and the reality that we do not capture a lot of the information that contributes to people’s healthcare experiences and outcomes. I am particularly interested in doing research that is focused on improving the ways trans and gender-diverse people are included in cancer research as a pathway to addressing the inequities the community faces in the cancer system.”
Congrats again Morgan!
