Access & Impact: How Your Support Expanded Access for 2SLGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC Learners in 2025

access and impact: Lambda Foundation

2025 has been an extraordinary year for the Lambda Foundation—one defined by growth, generosity, and expanding access to education and research for 2SLGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC learners across Canada.

Thanks to the ongoing support of our donors and community, Lambda continues to remove barriers, invest in talent, and strengthen pathways to opportunity. What follows is a snapshot of what your support made possible this year, and how that momentum continues to build.

Watch: How Your Support Changes Lives

At the heart of our work are the people whose futures are shaped by access to education and research.

Knowledge is Power and Power is Justice is a short film that highlights the real-world impact of Lambda’s research scholarships. Through the voices of scholars, it shows how financial support can open doors, fuel critical inquiry, and advance justice. This film captures what numbers alone cannot: the confidence, possibility, and agency that come from being supported.

2025 Highlights at a Glance

Here are just a few of the ways your generosity translated into tangible impact this year:

  • $242,000 awarded to date to support 171 2SLGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC learners and scholars
  • 12 award recipients supported in 2025 across scholarship and research categories
  • Launch of a new Lambda Foundation website and expanded public history resources
  • Strategic investments in community foundations to strengthen long-term sustainability and reach

What’s New Since the Annual Report

Momentum has continued well beyond the reporting period.

1. A new award for queer Francophone writers
2. Preserving and sharing queer history
  • Our oral history interview series is now live on the Lambda blog. These seven conversations honour the people and stories that shaped Lambda’s past while informing its future.
3. Wilde About Sappho — Lambda’s 40th Anniversary Celebration
  • In November, we marked a major milestone with an enormously successful celebration bringing together community, culture, and history. More reflections and outcomes from this event will be shared soon.

Looking Ahead: Sustaining Access and Impact

Your generosity does more than fund scholarships. It helps learners imagine futures that feel possible—futures that may otherwise be constrained by discrimination, financial barriers, or systemic exclusion.

Some supporters choose to extend that impact even further by including the Lambda Foundation in their will or estate plans.

Legacy gifts can be directed toward existing awards, unrestricted to support Lambda’s highest priorities, or used to establish new endowment funds that reflect a donor’s values. Planned giving can be a meaningful way to support long-term access while also offering potential tax benefits. If you are able, we invite you to support this work and help expand access even further.

As we close out 2025, we remain deeply grateful to everyone who has made this progress possible.

Your support is building a stronger foundation — and opening doors for the next generation of 2SLGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC learners.
