Call for Board Members of Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada
Join us for a rewarding volunteer leadership role to build on 40 years of volunteerism and community building by donating your time, expertise, and experience! We are actively seeking new board members.
Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada acknowledges and is committed to addressing historical inequities in society.
We are an equity-serving organization and invite applications from diverse and or marginalized communities. We encourage representation from those that identify as Indigenous, women, trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, Black, people of colour, and persons with disabilities.
The Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada supports and creates post-secondary and university scholarships to further research pertaining to ARTS, Social Sciences, and STEM research about 2SLGBTQ+ and QTBIPOC studies.
Lambda advances education that fights against oppression and discrimination and seeks to mobilize knowledge across communities by supporting 2SLGBTQ+ and QTBIPOC students in their academic pursuits by establishing networking opportunities in academic and non-academic settings.
Established in 1985, Lambda emerged during a time of struggle, resistance, and hope.
Our vision continues with our dedication to ensure organizational sustainability and foster the growth of Lambda Awards nationwide. This includes creating new scholarship opportunities, increasing existing endowments allowing us to increase annual award amounts, and the development of a donor-advised Lambda Fund. We also want to return to spotlighting recipients as community members with valuable knowledge and critical perspectives who are actively transforming society at local, national and international levels.
Lambda Foundation is currently developing its first-ever strategic plan for 2025 to 2030.
Historically volunteer-run, the Foundation hired a part-time Development Manager in March 2024, thanks to capacity funding from WAGE (Women and Gender Equality Canada). The Development Manager is currently working with our Strategic Planning Consultant to implement our forthcoming strategic organizational and fundraising plans by March 2025.
We are accepting applications for new board members to help ensure the successful growth of this volunteer-led organization.
Members will be invited to commit to developing and participating in and/or leading future committee work. These committees may include a Grants Committee, a Fund Oversight Committee, as well as Fundraising, Communications, and Financial Management.
In particular, we are looking for board members who can provide leadership in the following areas:
- Digital communications and marketing
- Major Donor Fundraising and Donor Stewardship
- Community engagement & advocacy
- Charitable organization governance
- Grant and Scholarship development and administration
- Events and project management/planning
Board members are required to attend a monthly board meeting (currently the third Sunday of the month), with the expectation to attend one monthly or bi-monthly committee meeting, and work on their focus areas outside of meetings. We estimate board member obligations of about 6-8 hours per month starting in early 2025.
Board members are generally appointed and voted in at our annual AGM in September, however, the board can appoint board members before the AGM for any current openings. Currently, we are seeking a Vice President (retiring) and an Executive Secretary (unfilled).
Fluency in both English and French (oral and written) is an asset but not a requirement. We encourage applications from across Canada.
Please direct all questions to development@lambdafoundation.org.
To apply, please send us the following information:
- A cover letter (or similar) describing your interests and experience — especially as they relate to the work of Lambda Foundation or community advocacy, university scholarships, grants, and the leadership areas mentioned above.
- Your C.V. or Resume.
Send your email to development@lambdafoundation.org with attention to Cameron Aitken, President.
We look forward to learning more about you and your desire to support the Lambda Foundation and the 2SLGBTQ+ and QTBIPOC students we support.
