Eden Conti – 2025 Candis Graham Writing Scholarship Recipient

EDEN CONTI HEADSHOT

Eden Conti is a third-year Fine Arts student at the University of Victoria (UVic), majoring in Writing.

Originally from Corbett, Oregon, Eden is currently furthering her studies on exchange at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, a global hub for creative excellence.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being in a community of artists these last two years; having peers across disciplines has enriched my experience while making me a stronger writer,” Eden says.

A Leader in the Literary Community

Eden is a familiar face in the local and campus literary scenes. She is currently the Managing Editor of This Side of West, UVic’s undergraduate literary journal, and a regular contributor to The Martlet, the university’s independent newspaper. Her creative work has also been featured in The Island Writer magazine.

Beyond the “world of words,” Eden is an active participant in West Coast life. She is a member of the UVic “Polar Dipper” club—braving the ocean twice a week—and spends her free time hiking and running along Victoria’s beaches and trails.

The Value of Cultural Immersion

The value of immersion and confronting the unknown of a new culture is a recurring theme in Eden’s journey. Building on a transformative experience in Guanajuato, Mexico, during her youth, Eden is now immersed in the literary traditions of the United Kingdom.

“I have been welcomed into a vibrant literary scene, the tutelage of some stellar professors, and the joys of exploring a UNESCO world city of literature,” Eden shares from Norwich. Looking ahead, she plans to continue building her portfolio as a journalist and editor, while also exploring Art Education to prepare for a future teaching role.

Gratitude for Support

For Eden, receiving the 2025 Candis Graham Writing Scholarship is both a financial relief and a powerful validation of her chosen path.

“Since I was young I wished to study the arts and it means so much to have your support as I continue my studies,” Eden shared in her thank you letter. “Your gift means a lot to me and I appreciate the faith being put into me and my academic future.”
