Starting Off 2025 with an Impact: Apply for the LGBT Purge Fund Community Grant
At Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada, we believe in the power of community, healing, and justice.
As we reflect on Canada’s LGBTQ+ history, we acknowledge the painful legacy of the LGBT Purge—a dark period from the 1950s to the early 1990s when LGBTQ+ individuals in the Canadian military, federal government, and other public sectors were systematically targeted, harassed, and dismissed due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
While the Canadian government issued a formal apology and committed to compensation, the journey of healing continues. The LGBT Purge Fund was established to support initiatives that address the ongoing impacts of this injustice and to help build a more inclusive future for LGBTQ+ Canadians.
One of the ways the LGBT Purge Fund supports the community is through its Community Grant Program.
This program provides financial assistance to organizations and projects that focus on:
- Supporting the well-being and healing of those affected by the Purge
- Promoting LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy
- Fostering education, awareness, and historical reconciliation
- Building mental health and community support networks for LGBTQ+ individuals
How to Apply: Visit the LGBT Purge Fund website for detailed information on eligibility, application instructions, and important deadlines. If you’re part of an organization or initiative that is working toward justice and healing for those affected by the Purge, we encourage you to apply and contribute to building a more inclusive future.
Please note: The LGBT Purge Fund will close permanently by June 30, 2027. All funds under its management must be allocated and distributed by that date.
At Lambda, we stand with the 2SLGBTQ+ community in its pursuit of justice and reconciliation. Let’s work together to ensure those impacted by the Purge are supported and that the legacy of this injustice is never overlooked.
