Ways to Support Lambda

Together, we can build a future where 2SLGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC individuals thrive through education, research, and meaningful opportunities.

Your gift directly supports 2SLGBTQ+ (Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer) and QTBIPOC (queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, and people of colour) students and scholars, helping the Lambda Foundation expand educational access and create lasting opportunities. Plus, your contribution may reduce your annual taxable income.

Lambda Scholarship Foundation’s funds are currently managed on behalf of our donors according to specific agreements with each participating university and high school. Lambda continues to organize itself around volunteers’ expertise in order to keep administrative costs low and ensure that any money raised to start or support a specific award goes directly to it.

Donate Online

Make a secure monthly donation or a one-time gift online with your credit card or Pre-authorized debit (PAD) through our donation partner, Zeffy.

Donate by Cheque or E-Transfer

Cheque

For donations by cheque, please make your gift payable to “Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada.” Tax receipts will be issued for amounts of $50 or more. You can designate a specific Lambda award on the memo line of your cheque next to your signature.

Mail your donation (along with your return address or email to receive a charitable tax receipt) to: Lambda Foundation c/o Tuan Vu, 3200 Rue Jean-Béraud, Montréal QC H4E 4K9.

E-transfer

To make a financial contribution to Lambda Foundation by Interac or e-transfer, please contact us for important instructions by first sending an email to donations@lambdafoundation.org with the subject line, “I want to make an e-transfer donation.”

Make a Gift of Securities or Mutual Funds to Lambda

Donating securities or mutual funds is the most efficient method for charitable giving. This includes stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

Make a bigger impact when you donate securities directly.

When you donate securities directly to a charity like the Lambda Foundation, as opposed to selling them and donating the proceeds, the capital gains tax is eliminated. This means you are left with more money to donate to the causes you care about, and you will receive a larger charitable tax credit.

You can easily donate mutual funds, stocks, or publicly traded securities to the Lambda Foundation through our charitable account at Canada Helps.

Group Fundraising Ideas

Give the Gift of Education: On anniversaries, birthdays, or during the holidays, encourage friends and family to donate to Lambda in lieu of gifts. Social media tools on platforms like CanadaHelps or Facebook make it simple to start a fundraiser. Please let us know how we can support you.

Collaborate with Friends: Pool resources with friends or family to create a new award or to make a larger gift. For example, if 10 people donate $100 each, your $1,000 total gift would fund one year of an existing Lambda scholarship. This group-giving approach was used to establish the Lambda Award at Carleton University in honour of the late Gary Sealey, the founder of Lambda.

Set up a funding drive at your local university or high school. Lambda will help you get matching provincial funding whenever possible.

Workplace Giving & Corporate Donations

Workplace Giving

One of the easiest ways to make a gift to the Lambda Foundation is through your workplace giving program. These programs allow you to designate an amount to be deducted from your paycheque.

Many businesses offer matching gift programs. It is easy to take advantage of this employee benefit that doubles the impact of your contribution. Check with your Human Resources department to see if your company provides a matching gift program.

Corporate Donations

Many businesses and employee groups recognize the importance of social responsibility.

A major donation to a charity strengthens relationships by rallying a group around a common cause. By making a contribution to the Lambda Foundation, your organization will have a broad impact on the 2SLGBTQ+ & QTBIPOC excellence in education across Canada. To support your fundraising efforts, Lambda Foundation can provide outreach materials and guest speakers, where available.

Sustainable funding comes entirely from people like you and organizations who care about our community and want to make it a better place to live now and in the future. Corporate level donations can support Lambda in the development of in perpetuity endowments to support a lasting legacy award.

Planned Giving

When you plan to support Lambda Foundation with a legacy gift in your will, you are investing in the future of 2SLGBTQ+ & QTBIPOC excellence in education.

Your legacy gift can be allocated as “unrestricted” to support Lambda Foundation’s highest priorities, directed toward one of our current university scholarship awards, or with a major gift of $25,000 or more, we will work with you to create a new Lambda Scholarship endowment fund. It is helpful to communicate with the Lambda Foundation to ensure we can uphold your wishes and the intent of your gift, including whether you wish to be recognized or remain anonymous.

A bequest in your will is a generous gift of love and support to your community. You can dedicate your gift in honour or in memory of a loved one.

Here is why you should consider leaving a charitable gift in your will.

If you are like many of our donors, you give generously and contribute to organizations and causes that are aligned with your values. What if you could make an even bigger impact than you thought possible? What if you could make an impact without reducing the money you need today and for your lifetime?

You can make a legacy difference without diminishing what you wish to leave to your loved ones and chosen family by leaving a charitable gift in your will.

For example, consider an estate valued at $750K. If you left a small part of your estate, perhaps 5%, to a charity of your choice, your legacy impact would be $37,500. That small percentage translates into a gift that many of us would never be able to make in our lifetime, and most of your estate still goes to those you care about. Imagine what an organization like the Lambda Foundation could do to support 2SLGBTQ+/QTBIPoC students thanks to the legacy of your impactful gift.

Remember, a charitable gift designated in your will can reduce the amount of taxes the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) levies on your estate after your passing. This means that more of your actual estate transfers to your loved ones.
