Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day 2025
We are delighted to announce that the Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day will be observed on Thursday, March 20, 2025, coinciding with the spring equinox.
This annual event celebrates the radiance and diversity of Two-Spirit identities, expressions, and experiences across Turtle Island. (cbrc.net)
This year’s theme, “Access,” emphasizes the importance of equitable access to healthcare, culture, and ceremony for Two-Spirit and Indigenous queer and trans communities.
These communities continue to face significant health disparities due to systemic racism, transphobia, homophobia, and discrimination. Advocates stress that their voices must be included in all Indigenous inquiries and calls to action.
A key focus of this year’s event is addressing gender-based violence, a critical issue that disproportionately impacts Two-Spirit and queer and trans Indigenous peoples. Calls for action highlight the urgent need for culturally specific supports, safety initiatives, and policy changes to protect and uplift these communities.
In Vancouver, the Community-Based Research Centre’s (CBRC) Two-Spirit Program will host an afternoon of activities on Friday, March 21, 2025, at The Birdhouse (44 W 4th Ave.), a queer and trans-run mixed-use arts and events space located on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. The event will feature an Opening Ceremony, speeches from community activists and city officials, and arts-based research activities and discussions. (cbrc.net)
We encourage our community members, allies, and supporters to participate in local events, host discussions, and share information to raise awareness and celebrate Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ identities. Together, we can promote understanding, respect, and inclusivity for all.
