Vu-Gruber & Lambda Scholarship Foundation Canada 2SLGBTQIA+ Refugee Bursary

The bursary, starting at $1,500, will be granted annually to provide financial support toward tuition and educational costs for a newcomer student currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution or pursuing a recognized career training or certification program in Canada.

Rainbow Railroad will be responsible for identifying and recommending eligible candidates from its active client or community network. For more details, read the press release.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Identify as a 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomer to Canada who arrived through a refugee resettlement program or made an inland refugee claim.
  • Be a permanent resident or protected person, as recognized by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
  • Be currently enrolled (full- or part-time) in a Canadian post-secondary program or career certification program at a recognized Canadian institution, as listed in the Directory of Educational Institutions in Canada (CICIC).
  • Be a current client or member of the Rainbow Railroad community, or be recommended by one of Rainbow Railroad’s governmental or community trusted partner organizations.

The bursary’s value may increase in future years depending on the performance of the endowment held in trust at the Ottawa Community Foundation.
